Nuns Corner - Refurbishment of Reception

The refurbishment and remodel of the Reception, Refectory, IBar, Shop and Estates Helpdesk which commenced in July 2011 and completed in September 2011. The works included the demolition of the Information offices and construction of a new curved wall with integrated floating bench. Installation of new central reception desk pod and complete new flooring, ceilings, light fittings and decoration including new artwork and large TV screens throughout the area. Construction of raised floors and new easy sloped ramps throughout to create an ease of access to the whole building including the Refectory which had a reconfiguration of the serving areas, redecoration and new furniture. The old shop was converted to the Estates Helpdesk and Accommodation office along with creatation of an enclosed main stairwell. The Campus Shop was relocated into it new form in the old International offices which were remodelled for this propose including installation of an external door to the courtyard. In the courtyard modifications to the paving levels to remove steps and ramps and construction of a purposed built porch is now the main entrance to this area and opening up of access to the old IBar area to create a new decorated Coffee Lounge. The removal of Retra and a meeting room to create an open easy access area for Learner Services.

Nuns Corner – Construction Road Resurfacing

The Construction Road on the Laceby Road Entrance on the Nuns Corner campus got resurfaced with a hard wearing tarmacadam and white lined to a slightly amended layout. Works were carried out during the summer period, completed in August 2011.

The Towers – Halls of Residence Refurbishment

A programme of refurbishment works was carried out on the Towers halls of residence over the summer period. The majority of works were carried out by the Estates Maintence team. Works included complete redecoration of the all the rooms, corridors and communal areas.

Welholme House – Halls of Residence Refurbishment
During the summer a programme of refurbishment was carried out in Welholme House. The works included the redecoration of the rooms, corridors and communal spaces.

Nuns Corner – Sports Building

The construction of the proposed new Sports Building will commence on site in February 2012. This when finished September 2012 will provide a new modern sports facility to the Nuns Corner campus.

Nuns Corner – C Block Façade Refurbishment

This is the first phase of a major refurbishment of the external facades of the buildings on the Nuns Corner campus. This project is due to start on site January 2012 which includes a complete overhaul of the eastern façade of C Block and courtyard side of the mezzanine floor. Works include new double glazed aluminium windows throughout and a new insulated colour render system on the facades. On the ground floor the enlargement of some of the windows in the entrance area and removal of the glazed roof at the fire escape doors in reception. This works will provide a more thermally efficient buildings and new modern look to the campus.
